The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
