The East African nation Takes Back Cultural Items After a Century Residence in German Hands
Exactly Twelve ancient artefacts have been formally restored to Ethiopia after being kept by a German family for over 100 years.
These artefacts, first gathered in the early twentieth century by Germany's diplomat to the Ethiopian empire Franz Weiss and his wife Hedwig, were delivered on this past Wednesday to the research center at the university in Addis Ababa.
This assortment contained crowns, shields and paintings, each considered as historically important in the country.
"The treasures still represent a emblem of the long-standing and positive relationship between the German nation and the Ethiopian people," remarked Ferdinand von Weyhe, Germany's ambassador to the East African country.

She continued that the items would soon be made accessible to the public for investigation and academic study, terming the decision a significant step in protecting the nation's historical legacy.
"Efforts will continue to return historical items that are located in the custody of private persons and entities throughout the planet," she affirmed.
During imperial control in the African continent, thousands of cultural artefacts were looted.
This call by African countries for the restoration of looted artefacts has been responded to by a degree of success in the past few years - although some objects are merely on temporary return.
Back in the year 2022, the German government was the first state to give back a portion of the renowned historical items to Nigeria in an attempt to address its "troubled past."
