Individuals of an Italy-based clan of thieves who stole over £1.2m valued of items, including from ex- NUFC forward Alexander Isak, have been mandated to return only £1 per person.

Siblings Valentino and Giacomo Nikolov, their sister Jela and her son Charlie journeyed to the north-east of the UK to raid three houses in April 2024.

The foursome were imprisoned for from six and 10 years in 2025.

At a proceeds of crime proceeding at Newcastle Crown Court, Jela Jovanovic and the Nikolov brothers were instructed to pay back £1 per person while Charlie must hand over £1,135.

Details of the Burglaries

The judge was told the group arrived by ferry in the UK on March 27, 2024 and used a campervan as their "headquarters", which they stationed at a service area and Durham service stations while utilizing another car to scout out properties and carry out burglaries.

On 31 March they took more than £1m of items including high-end fashion, purses, jewellery and a honor from a house on Clayton Road in Jesmond, Newcastle, while the owners were away.

The next evening, the crew broke into a house on a gated cul-de-sac in Whitburn, and stole designer handbags, valuables and footwear valued at more than one hundred thousand pounds.

After scouting out the football club's facility for two days, they then struck at the residence of Swedish player Mr Isak in Darras Hall on April 4, stealing £10,000 in cash, £68,000 valued of jewellery and the player's £120,000 Audi RS6.

Legal Proceedings and Rulings

Valentino Nikolov had pleaded not guilty to the burglary plot but was convicted by jurors, while his three relations had all entered admissions to the identical accusation.

At the criminal gains hearing, lawyer Daniel Cordey said each of the defendants had benefited from their crimes to the amount of £1,266,285.93, which was based on what the affected parties said they had lost.

But Charlie Jovanovic was the sole individual deemed to have any money that could be "realised", namely £1,135.50 which had already been seized by police, the court was informed, with two weeks to be served in jail if he defaulted.

The remaining members had no assets or assets so were ordered to make a token amount of £1 each, with one week in prison the result if the money was not submitted.

The judge Robert Spragg said if they were found with property in the future, "for example driving around Italy in a fast car or possessing a home", the prosecution could seek further action to "recover the sum outstanding".
