Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is not yet known and the US has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported debris landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
