Followers Demand Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who leaped a barricade and touched the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video reveals the Australian man bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though official papers showed that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a performance. His Instagram account contains recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is clearly a punishable act," stated an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Grande's Well-being
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further message on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted security officers at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande seemed surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the well-known stage production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected friendship between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 Academy Award nods, winning two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
