Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.

“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He added, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so we'll see.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Response

The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”

He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
